One of the things that I love about Edmonton is the number of the hidden architectural gems we have scattered throughout the City. Whether it’s been designed by an undiscovered local architect, a world famous one or even one of the designers with the City itself you can literally spend a day driving through the gorgeous Capital Region spotting them here and there. I have several places that I enjoy and wish that more people realized the value that they bring to our streetscapes.
Many of you know my favourite is likely the Peter Hemingway Swimming Pool. Not only is the building itself striking, the way it lies in its surrounding landscape is quite honestly inspiring. Also.. right along Stony Plain Road there is an EPCOR substation.. floor to ceiling glass walls with a flat roof. I only wish EPCOR would remove the window decals and once again reveal the inner workings through the expanse of glass!
What are your favourites? What do you think is an undiscovered gem? Send us your thoughts and a photo as well & I’d love to post them here!
Another note worth mentioning… although our City makes some silly mistakes by allowing great, beautiful structures to succumb to the wrecking ball, we are getting better. More thought is being put into building design to ensure that not only is a building functional, but that it performs well with its surroundings throughout the year.
Off my soapbox now ;)
Have a great day Edmonton and thanks for checking us out!
As soon as I announced the GUS* 20% Off sale I literally had 3 orders come in for Jane Bi-Sectionals, Spencer Sectionals & a Jane Loft Bi-Sectional. Our clients love GUS*! Following that, 15% Off of Kartell’s sexy line I decided to put the GRomano Floor Model Clearance sale on – 20% off of all GRomano goods here in the Studio. Come in and check out what we’ve got going on folks!
Also… The weekend was incredible here in Edmonton, in particular at this very cool furniture and design Studio (that’d be us). We reorganized the design area, cleaned it up & went on a major ‘back room’ hunt for anything we could find that we had ones or twos of and none on the floor. Always something new! ;)
Today.. perfect day. Great sales, awesome traffic and great music to enjoy the entire time!
Thanks for following us folks, check us out on Twitter and give me some feedback on the website. Come in, chat, BE Inspired!
I have a couple days off and come back to a Studio full of new things.. it seems to be how things are going! Today whats new: a sectional from GUS* that is in a beautifully soft fabric, a huge selection of Chilewich mats from New York, and thats just to name a few.
I had a great conversation with a young lady and her companion today (A little yorkshire terrier). We were talking about the classic design of the Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe Daybed. So classic, simple and yet so sophisticated. From the time when I was a young boy that I first saw one in the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium to later seeing them in the Francis Windspear Centre I knew I had to have one! His designs have always ‘Inspired’ me.
What Inspires you? What home design, which furniture piece, which building do you enjoy? Let me know and I’d love to share it here on the BE Inspired! Blog!
