I know… I know… we’re not an architectural firm or organization.. but that won’t stop me from talking about my love of architecture! ;)
There’s a great organization called Apartment Therapy that often promotes very cool architecture and design… spaces ranging from tiny little lofts to amazing, intricate structures. Our clients are always sending us and showing us things they love. This link was sent to us by one of our clients who shares a passion for architecture and design and so I thought I would share it with you here! Check out this modern Flatiron building that the folks at Apartment Therapy have featured!
Edmonton has so many beautiful structures both old and new! What is your favourite? What structure that you have seen on your travels would you like to share?!
Let me know and I’d love to feature it here!
have a great blustery weekend and if you’re out and about… come in, see the tonnes of new items we have in our Studio and as always.. BE Inspired!
If you’re not familiar with Edmonton’s Sylvancroft Estate, familiarize yourself. Here’s an excellent comment regarding the latest from Paula Simons at the Edmonton Journal http://bit.ly/pPfHc7
The history behind this cool property is very interesting but what is even more interesting is it’s future. I’ve had the pleasure now of meeting Jamie from the House Company and it appears as though what they and the developer are about to do will be unique to Edmonton. The property will be converted into loft style spaces with a greater allowance for light to filter through. The land surrounding the historic home will be developed into contemporary and unique homes. The setting is going to be beautiful.
I’d invite you to check it out at their sales centre and if you have the chance, chat with Jamie about the project. It truly is, Inspired!
I’m what many people refer to an “Armchair Architect”. All of my life, architecture and design was always of interest to me and continues to be so to this day. So many talented men and women and the teams they work with have designed such awe inspiring structures that often when I’m able to experience them 1st hand, I’m truly at a loss for words (which for me is odd!).
In more recent years, Edmonton has been working to increase the design quality of it’s buildings. We’ve seen some pretty amazing structures come together in our City and they range from pedestrian bridges (see http://www.edmontonjournal.com/columnists/Beautiful+bridge+smart+city/5265157/story.html) to our gorgeous Art Gallery of Alberta.
Today, 4 sets of preliminary drawings were released to the public by the Government of Alberta. (see http://www.infrastructure.alberta.ca/3688.htm). Take a look, give them feedback and think about how each design affects you.
My initial thoughts? All faces, north, south, east and west have to be able to interact with the street, need to be pedestrian friendly and truly WELCOME people into the building.
Thanks for reading, check out the new RAM designs and most importantly… BE Inspired!
